Colorado
From GotWiki
Welcome to the Colorado Pages. Information from Garmin on these new units can be found here - or, more specific details/information on the specific model I ended up with, the 400t.
First and foremost - you should check out this excellent, constantly-evolving reference:
Garmin Colorado FAQ and Issues List
So - sounds like this Colorado might be a pretty useful geocaching tool, huh? Well, at release time, with the firmware that was shipped with the units - it had some serious problems (I had one on pre-order, but scored one 'in person' at REI, the day they arrived).
Eventually, we saw the 2.4 firmware released, and - now, at least we could see geocaches on the map, and the unit didn't choke when more than a few hundred caches were loaded. So - where does that leave us, now?
- Currently holds 2000 geocaches, with ALL details: Title, description, Difficulty/Terrain, hints, and previous logs.
- Native GPX file support. Consumes geocaching.com PQ GPX files, or GSAK generated-ones.
- Child waypoints created as waypoints.
- Built-in (or loaded) Topo maps with Digital Elevation Model (DEM) shading/detail
So - how do I cache with the new unit? Well, for starters... by leaving the Palm, and CacheMate, at home!
The same rules (and many of the same processes) still apply: I just end up replacing the CacheMate, hotsync, CM2GPX, and the CacheMate import function in GSAK...
With a collection of Colorado Macros for GSAK.
