Paperless Caching
From GotWiki
The purpose of this wiki is to give the reader a general overview of one guy's approach to paperless caching. It presumes a general familiarity with the terminology and concepts of geocaching, as well as basic operation of the equipment: GPS receiver, computer, and PDA*.
Note that this is just ONE approach, which has morphed and evolved over the years, along with the associated toolsets - and represents a point-in-time reference. I'll try to keep it updated as new tools and techniques are developed - or better yet, when you, the reader, provide me with insightful feedback on how to improve it.
This wiki is broken into five major sections:
- Tools: The hardware, software and online tools used
- Data Management: How to get and store the cache data
- Caching Processes: Preparation, Caching, and Logging
- Reporting Tools: Generating Stats and Maps
- Gaps Weaknesses: Gaps, Weaknesses, and a 'wish list' for my current approach
Please review the information in the order shown above, unless you have a specific interest in particular topic. You are encouraged to contribute to this wiki, improving the tools, techniques and processes with ideas that have never occurred to me. Thanks for your input!
- Note: The new Garmin Colorado has turned my entire processes on their ear. It's a whole new game, with new tools, techniques, macros and processes. See the Colorado page(s) for details.
